The Kalahari Khabu Heritage Biltong Slicer is a hand operated biltong slicer that cuts biltong from 2mm to 18mm thick. It clamps to a tabletop up to 45mm thick, takes slabs up to 70mm wide, and runs a precision hardened steel blade under a protective hood.

Dried meat does not give the way fresh meat does, so a bread knife tears it. The slab slides around, slices come off thick at one end and shredded at the other.
Alex from Auckland was sawing his with a serrated knife before he bought a slicer. His words were “Not fun!”
Clamp this to the bench, set the dial, turn the handle. Wafer thin for the delicate snackers, thick chunks for the ones who want something to chew on, and the most underrated point is the consistency with every slice.

The bread knife goes back in the drawer

A sharp blade and easy leverage do the work. Alex E, who owns one, put it best: no sawing.

Cut it your way

One dial covers 2mm to 18mm. Shave it fine for the people who like it to melt in your mouth, leave it thick for the ones who want a proper chew.

It stays where you put it

The clamp grips a tabletop up to 45mm thick. Nothing slides while you turn the handle, which is where the mess and the near misses come from.

Your fingers stay out of it

The blade is properly sharp and a hood covers it. Worth having when the kids want a turn, and when you are tired and not concentrating.

Even slices dry the same and eat the same

The same thickness across the batch means the whole lot is just the way you like it.

Ours, not a rebadged import

The Heritage runs on an exclusive design patent because we didn’t really like the guillotine style cutters either.

Three hundred dollars is a lot for something you turn by hand but anyone who makes biltong will tell you that they love the process except for cutting the slabs at the end. The beauty of our biltong cabinets is making bulk batches of your favourite snack but processing all those slabs at once can be a blessing and curse. Until you use our slicer.

Straight answer

Is it worth $299.95?

Three hundred dollars is a lot for something you turn by hand. But anyone who makes biltong will tell you they love the process except for cutting the slabs at the end. The beauty of a cabinet is bulk batches. Processing all those slabs at once is a blessing and a curse. Until you use this.

Said it best

Before

“Can anyone recommend a good slicer? Going through all of that 1kg slabs with a knife was time consuming, and I couldn’t quite get it consistently as thin as I’d like.”

After

“I’ve been having to saw my biltong with a serrated knife. Not fun! Using this slicer makes it so much easier: no sawing, just a sharp blade and easy leverage.”
